Expense categories

Every payment is assigned to one of 40 categories based on the budget's official economic classification. This is our glossary: what each category means and how much went to it in the last 30 days.

Construction and investment

Money invested in lasting assets: roads, buildings, schools, parks, equipment and renovation of existing structures.

Day-to-day operations

What it takes to keep the city running: energy, maintenance, utilities, services, rent and supplies.

Support to citizens

Benefits and services the City pays directly to citizens or on their behalf.

Subsidies and incentives

Support to city-owned companies (e.g. public transport) and to businesses and farmers.

Transfers to institutions

Funds passed on to schools, kindergartens, hospitals, the state or other budget users.

Staff

Wages, contributions, travel and training of city administration and institution employees.

Donations and other

Donations to associations and clubs, capital aid to companies, penalties and damages.

Loans and financial costs

Loan repayments, interest, bank fees and financial investments.

Unclassified

Payments without a recognised economic classification.
